The practice
What it is built on
The expertise behind Contra Consulting comes from legal research rather than from commercial consulting: Croatian legal history, comparative and European law, property and inheritance law, and the development of Croatian public administration, its registers and its archives.
That is an unusual foundation for market-entry work, and a useful one. Much of what actually slows a foreign company down in Croatia is administrative rather than legal — a record held somewhere nobody thought to look, a procedure whose logic was inherited from an administration that no longer exists, an office that turns out not to have the competence everyone assumed it had. Understanding how the system was built is often the fastest way to understand why it is not moving.
The practice was founded to put that knowledge to practical use for companies entering the Croatian market, combined with the ordinary, unglamorous coordination work that a foreign company needs and cannot easily do from abroad.
